      EMILIO COLAIACOVO, PARTNER

      Emilio Colaiacovo concentrates his practice primarily in the areas of Matrimonial and Family Law. Mr. Colaiacovo handles all aspects of divorce proceedings, including the equitable distribution of property as well as child custody, support and visitation issues. He also has significant experience negotiating property settlement agreements as they relate to legal separations. While some difficulties often arise after a judgment of divorce is granted, Mr. Colaiacovo has resolved numerous disputes in both Family and Supreme Court. Mr. Colaiacovo has significant trial experience in Family & NYS Supreme Courts. He also represents litigants in Family Court Offense and abuse/neglect proceedings. Mr. Colaiacovo has been appointed as a Law Guardian to represent the interests of children who are often at the center of most divorce and family court matters.

      In addition to his extensive Matrimonial and Family Law practice, Mr. Colaiacovo also acted as a Guardian ad litem in the Erie County Surrogate's Court. Often, Mr. Colaiacovo acts as a fiduciary in reviewing the judicial settlement of accounts as well as identifying unknown heirs in complex estate matters. Additionally, he has been appointed by the Court to represent infant children and adults under disability in order to protect their rights.

      Mr. Colaiacovo also represents Defendants in criminal proceedings before City, Town, County and State Courts, as well as parties in real estate transactions.

      • Bachelor of Arts, History/Research Intelligence and Analysis, Mercyhurst College (Erie, Pennsylvania), 1998, Magna Cum Laude. While at Mercyhurst, Mr. Colaiacovo studied in the Research Intelligence Analysis Program, a four-year program designed to provide students the opportunity to pursue careers as intelligence analysts in government agencies or private enterprises. During his course of study, he was employed by the Unites States Customs Service and the National Security Agency. He was awarded the "Carpe Diem" Award for student leadership.
